The activities of using technologies, such as; computer, internet, and other telecommunications media(radio, TV, smart-phones) to communicate, create and disseminate, store and manage information in English language teaching and learning. Technology in ELT, casseless and recorder in ALM(1970) ICT in ELT(1990)

Actually, from time to time, the model and approach of learning has several changes. From paper form to digital form, from teacher center to student center. All of it has improved until now and here are the

CALL(computer-assisted language learning) MALL(mobile-assisted language learning) RALL(robot-assisted language learning) TELL(technology-enhanced language learning) Blended Learning(combination of face-to-face and online learning) flipped learning (student autonomous online learning before face-to-face classroom meeting) LMS(learning management system, online classroom learning platform) TPACK(technological pedagogical content knowledge) SAMR(substitution augmentation modification redefinition)

ICT in integration in ELT

There are advantages and disadvantages in ICT

-          ICT provides more teaching-learning material resources for teachers and students

-          ICT increase students critical and creativity thinking and accommodate collaboration learning

-          ICT promotes an autonomous learning

-          ICT improves students and teacher digital literacy skills

-          ICT increase teachers and students positive attitude to technology application

-          ICT enhances students motivation in learning

-          ICT gives easiness and flexibility for long distance learning(remote teaching)

o   Low teachers knowledge and attitude toward ICT in ELT

o   Unmotivated students in autonomous learning

o   Insufficient policy and institutional

o   Incomplete facility and technological support of ICT

o   High cost maintenance.

Actually there are problem that still haven’t cured yet in ICT

-          ICT skills / literacy (lack of TPD/training in ICT)

-          Time management and allocation

-          Facility(internet access/technological tools)

-          Institutional support and policy

 

Here are some discussion we had during class to solve the problem in ICT

[11.17, 27/9/2022] Aghnia Jihan S.A: For ICT Skills/Literacy, We Can make a workshop about ICT so the teachers Can improve the ICT literacy

[11.18, 27/9/2022] Raditya ade putra(Radit): 1. Make sure that the teachers in Indonesia havebeen taught/have been given a workshop to utilize technology in learning

2. Make sure that Indonesia has a good kemkominfo so that the technology tools are distributed equally.

[11.20, 27/9/2022] Aghnia Jihan S.A: For time management and allocation, maybe the asosiasi guru/perkumpulan guru can meeting to share how they manage the time and allocation. So the teachers Can implement it in daily life

[11.22, 27/9/2022] Elfira: for facility, you can get everything ready for example you can choose cellular card or wifi with strong network, for technological tools u can prepare laptop or handphone, or if you don't have it you can use facility at that school.

In short, ICT in ELT take an important part for teacher and student. Teacher should know about times and technological developments. So the teachers can implement it in learning process, for example use google classroom, LMS, and others. Even though there are a lot of advantage its also have disadvantage such as; lack of ICT literacy, high expense for maintenance, etc.
